Inpatient Care

We accept admissions for inpatient care for:

Symptom Control

Our specialist multi-disciplinary team intensively assesses reviews and attends to each patient’s needs. The team consists of the following core professionals: medical, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, and spiritual support.
Longer stays will be considered on a case by case basis, where there is exceptional need

Terminal Care

It is important to start discussion about a patient’s preferred place of care prior to admission as Saint Michael’s actively supports patients whose preference is to die at home.
Saint Michael’s aims to be flexible in our approach to meeting our patients needs at the end of life by supporting both them and those close to them.  Every inpatient is offered their own room with en-suite bathroom and there are facilities for family members to say over should this be preferable. We also offer spiritual support.

Respite Care

Saint Michael’s has a structured approach to respite care. We plan admissions and expected dates for discharge with the patient and those close to them. We then work to set up an appropriate package of care set to support the patients on discharge. The goal is to support patients and carers, prevent fatigue, maximise quality of life and enable ongoing care in their own home. We aim to maintain and maximise a patient’s current level of function during these admissions.

The Saint Michael’s inpatient unit is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
